Quote 18 Apr 187 notes
I’m not going to get all political, but to sum things up, I feel that government programs are wonderful when they are helping people who have come across hard times and need some assistance getting back up on their feet. However, I feel that too many people depend on them heavily as a way of life, not as assistance. Many times these people are also the ones buying soda and chips and complaining that it’s too expensive to eat healthy foods.

What a cunt.

UGHHHH a carefree white girl running a blog about how it’s so easy to eat healthy on food stamps (even though a professional chef disproved that). “I’m not going to get all political, I’m just going to shame all poor people and imply that they don’t deserve chips and soda!”

I like GOMI’s response: “Sorry but if you are an upper middle class white lady in the suburbs of North Carolina, your attitude of ‘if I can do it, so can they’ is just beyond snotty. The inner city poor do not have a nice SUV to pack up all their cheap fresh veggies from Costco before preparing them in their nice little kitchen. Please stop acting like ‘well they should just buy vegetables and lean meats and whole grains!’ is the final answer for what is going on nutritionally with those using government assistance, and get back to stressing about the farmer’s market being out of kale.”

also, it’s pretty hard to go to the farmer’s market 20 miles away for your chicken and veggies when you have to ride the bus there and back.

I have to say, I went and read the original post and I found it mostly reasonable.  Basically if she took this portion that has been posted here and took it out and simply said “I wanted to see for myself”, she would have been fine.  There is nothing wrong with that, that’s a healthy sense of curiosity and skepticism.  Instead, she didn’t follow her own advice (the advice of the 6 words she typed) and “got all political”.  I don’t think a lot of people understand, playing with politics is more than just having an opinion on current events, it’s signing up for a cock fight.  It’s mean and vicious out there, and there is no mercy.  There is no mercy especially who might “miss represent” themselves, because it’s when people misrepresent themselves that they show how they truly feel.  Some people need to learn the hard way, especially people who don’t tend to “get all political”.  But Mrs. Rabbit is right, she needs to figure in more than income; things like transportation (no big cars) and storage (no buying in bulk because no extra freezers), and she certainly can’t figure up her what she would get in food stamps on her iPad.  Also poor people don’t tend to be invited over for dinner, since poor people tend to also have poor friends.
