“Thus the real danger in the artificial crisis over the president’s birth certificate is not Donald Trump becoming president, but a news media unwilling to apply a basic filter for what it publishes, posts and broadcasts. Failing to do so degrades the quality of news in general, making people less trusting and increasingly disinterested.” —Tavis Smiley

I had a dream about a week ago about a goalie getting a break away and scoring the final goal for his hat trick.  What has Canada done to me?

“President Obama, if you look closely at his positions, is a moderate Republican from the early 1990s. And the Republican Party he’s facing has abandoned many of its best ideas in its effort to oppose him.” —Ezra Klein

A Grammar related question.

Could someone explain something to me?  When I started to become a fan of science I started using the phrase “data is king” to refer to scientific evidence (not to the spock-wannabe of “The Next Generation”).  Anyway, as I was talking research methods class, learning how to write scientific papers, we were told that ‘data’ is a plural word.  So that meant what I was saying was wrong, and the correct way to say it is “data are king”.  Since I am more interested in how words or a phrase sound or feel I didn’t like “data are king”.  It’s too clunky and doesn’t have the same command to it as “Data is king”.  I posted this some time ago on facebook and a friend of greater grammatical and scientific understanding explained that, in a certain way, “Data is king” can still be correct.  I can not find it on my profile and I cannot remember what it was he said.  Was he right?  If so, why was he right (or wrong)?

In the process of building two new close up pads!  I bought all the stuff to make one, and ended up having enough to make a large one and a small one.  It will be an exciting few days of assembling until my brand new rare cards arrive!
